How checkouts work in darts
In 501 and 301 with double out, your last dart has to hit a double that takes your score to exactly zero. Score more than you have left, or leave yourself on 1, and it’s a bust: the visit doesn’t count and your score stays where it was.
Why 170 is the highest checkout
Two treble 20s make 120 and the bull counts as a double worth 50. With three darts and a double to finish, you can’t check out more than 170.
Bogey numbers: 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162, 159
These scores below 170 can’t be finished in three darts. If you’re on one, use the visit to leave yourself a score you can check out next time.
Which route is best?
The routes match the checkout suggestions in the app: as few darts as possible, common trebles such as T20 and T19, and a comfortable double to finish. Many players have a favourite double, so we show alternatives for lots of scores.
